What Adobe Illustrator’s New 3D Tool Means for Our Clients

Adobe is getting ready to roll out a major update to Illustrator that has a lot of us at MPW paying close attention. Soon, designers will be able to rotate 2D graphics in 3D space, right inside Illustrator. This update gives us a way to add depth and perspective to flat design work, without jumping into more complex 3D software.

So what does that mean for our clients? In short, more immersive visuals, better mockups, and faster workflows. Here’s a look at what’s coming and why it matters.

What’s Changing in Illustrator?

The new 3D rotation tool will live inside Illustrator’s existing 3D and Materials panel. It will let designers adjust the angle and perspective of 2D graphics, giving artwork a sense of depth and realism while still working within the familiar Illustrator workspace.

Early previews show features like:

  • Live 3D rotation with easy-to-use controls
  • Customizable lighting and shadow
  • Adjustable camera angles and depth
  • Integration with Adobe’s Substance 3D tools
  • Easy export options for use in branding, websites, and social media

How This Benefits Our Clients

While this is a designer tool at its core, it comes with very real advantages for the businesses and brands we support:

  1. More Realistic Mockups, Faster
We’ll be able to spin a logo or packaging design in 3D right from Illustrator. That means quicker concept mockups for presentations, without needing to open Photoshop or Dimension.
  2. More Engaging Content
Social posts, digital ads, and campaign visuals can now include subtle depth and perspective, helping them stand out in cluttered feeds and crowded marketplaces.
  3. Faster Approvals, Fewer Revisions
Clients will be able to view designs from multiple angles, which gives a clearer sense of how a concept will look in the real world. That can mean faster sign-offs and fewer back-and-forth tweaks.
  4. More Efficient Workflows
By keeping the design work in one tool, our creative team saves time. That efficiency translates into quicker turnaround for our clients.

When Will This Be Available?

Adobe hasn’t announced a specific launch date, but the feature is expected to go live sometime in 2025—likely during a major Creative Cloud update or Adobe MAX release.

Bottom Line

This 3D rotation feature isn’t just a flashy update. It’s another way we can deliver higher-quality work, faster. At MPW, we’re always looking for tools that help us raise the bar creatively and work smarter. This is one of those moments.

We’ll keep an eye on the rollout and start putting it to use as soon as it’s ready. And when we do, your visuals will look even better for it.
